Introduction to Rf Linear Accelerators
After a short introduction to applications of RF linacs and their advantages and drawbacks as opposed to circular accelerators, the model of RF resonant cavities and their excitation by RF sources or beam is introduced. Then beam dynamics notions, essential to linacs, such as transit-time factor, synchronism, r.m.s. properties, matching and mismatching in linear or nonlinear forces, are presented.
متن کاملComputation of Output Losses due to Congestion in Data Envelopment Analysis
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is an approach for evaluating performances of Decision Making Units (DMUs). The performances of DMUs are affected by the amount of sources that DMUs used. Usually increases in inputs cause increases in outputs. However, there are situations where increases in one or more inputs generate a reduction in one or more outputs. In such situations there is congesti...
متن کاملIntroduction to Electrodynamics for Microwave Linear Accelerators
This collection of notes and exercises is intended as a workbook to introduce the principles of microwave linear accelerators, starting with the underlying foundation in electrodynamics. We review Maxwell's equations, the Lorentz force law, and the behavior of fields near a conducting boundary. We go on to develop the principles of microwave electronics, including waveguide modes, circuit equiv...
متن کاملMeasurement of Longitudinal Mode Mixing in the Fermilab Large Hadron Accelerators
Fermilab High Energy Physics research program for RUN-II requires rapid generation of antiprotons and high intensity protons. We had previously observed longitudinal mode mixing in the Main Ring and Tevatron at intensities desirable for the RUN-II. We incorporated high-speed digitizer (RTD-720) and (LeCroy 9384CM) to measure the time domain, and further spectral analyses were performed to measu...
متن کاملElectrostatic mode excitation in electron holes due to wave bounce resonances.
A kinetic theory of resonant interaction between electrostatic waves and the bounce motion of electrostatically trapped electrons is developed. Precise criteria are derived for the stability of electrostatic potential structures which trap electrons in a highly magnetized plasma. The theory explains the energy transfer from electron phase space holes to waves observed in simulations. It may als...
